Obverse

Circular with a raised rim and another rim 1mm inside the first containing 76 equidistant raised dots. The bottom half of the medal contains two crossed rifle bullets 17mm long above which is a 15mm diameter raised polar projection map with Korea, encircled by two olive branches.

Reverse

Plain except for the inscription in 3mm Korean characters ‘ ’ (Korea) around the lower half of the medal and ‘ ’ (War Service Medal) from top centre to bottom.

Size 33mm in diameter and 2.5mm thick
Suspension

Struck in one piece a 18.5mm semi-circular ring 3mm wide to allow the ribbon to pass through. The portion between the medal and ring is flat and 7mm wide.

Ribbon

35mm wide, with a 21mm central stripe of yellow, and on either side are white 1mm, red 1mm, white 1mm and light green 4mm. In the centre of the ribbon there is a 13mm woven Korean taeguk, dark blue top and red below.

Instituted

By the Republic of Korea Government in 1951 to all United Nations personnel as an official medallic recognition of the significant contribution and bravery of the United Nations forces. This medal is an unofficial post 1960 private purchase Medal, as it was later difficult to obtain or replace the original issue medal.

Qualification

For Belgium personnel service between the outbreak of hostilities on 24th June 1951 and the date the armistice was signed on 27th July 1953. Been on permanent assignment or temporary duty for 30 consecutive days or 60 non-consecutive days, and performed their duty within the territorial limits of Korea, in the waters immediately adjacent thereto or in aerial flight over Korea participating in actual combat operations or in support of combat operations.
