Obverse The representation of Asoka's three lions as shown on Asoka's Pillar at Sarnath, the Indian State emblem and Moto, inside a 1.2mm raised rim with the legend  " " (Videsh Seva Medal) in Hindi script around the lower half of the medal.
Reverse A 1.2mm raised rim with an ancient warship in heavy seas.
Size 35mm diameter and 3mm thick.
Suspension By a straight non-swivel suspender, attached to the medal by a claw mounting.
Composition Cupro-nickel.
Designers Not known.
Naming Small impressed 1.5mm letters, e.g. " 3938624 HAV. CHATTAR SINGH. DOGRA R. "
Ribbon 32mm wide cobalt blue with five 1.5mm white stripes equally spaced.
No. of clasps 19 - Cupro-nickel, attached to the suspender with a pin and to other clasps with two rivets. 32.5mm long and 6mm deep plain bar with the inscription in Hindi script only. Only one clasp issued for the Korean War: -

Other emblems Lotus leaf - A single miniature lotus leaf emblem is worn on the ribbon by those Mentioned in Despatches.

Qualification Issued to Indian members of the Neutral Nations Repatriation Commission Custodian Force between 22 November 1950 and 17 March 1954. This medal was not issued if the member was awarded the General Service Medal 1947 with clasp " Overseas Korea 1950-53 ". Indian Units involved included 2 Parachute Regiment 3 Dogra Regiment, 3 Garhwal Rifles, 5 Rajputana Rifles, 6 Jat, 60th Parachute Field Ambulance and elements of The Mahar M.G. Regiment.
