I first started medal collecting in 1974, introduced by a
long time friend David Potterton. It was not until eight years later that
I became interested in the Korean War, but trying to gather the correct
information about medals issued to other United Nation countries involved
in the Korean War was very difficult. Then at an OMRS convention in the
late 1980’s I met and had a long conversation with Henry Pownall who just
after the Korean War compiled a pamphlet entitled ‘Korean Campaign Medals
1950-53’ and it was published in 1955. This meeting prompted me to start a
personal catalogue of each medal issued to different Countries and over
the years this has extended to Units involved and Decorations issued.
After being asked to show my catalogue to a few ex-Korean War members of
my local British Legion they said how good it would be if others could see
the scope of medals that were issued for the war. Nigel Rigby, another
friend offered to produce a web site for me at no cost, so I would be able
to offer other people the interesting history behind the issue of Korean
War Medals. I do not have much time to spend on my computer, so it will
take me a while to complete this task.
All the information I have gathered over the years was originally for
personnel use so I am unable to say were the information was obtained. I
have listed all the books and pamphlets in my library (most of which are
quite old now!) so if anybody has any objections please contact me so we
may talk and resolve the situation or put you on a link from this web
site.
If you have any information that may help this site, please Contact Us and I will include it with a reference to the person supplying the
information.
